Animoto turns your photos and music into stunning videos! You provide the photos, minimal text, then you pick the song, and they'll add the magic. It’s fast, free and shockingly easy! Sign up for a free educator account so your students can make videos of any length, otherwise anyone can sign up for a free account to make 30 second videos.

WeVideo is a free application that allows users to create a visual story (show and tell presentation) from their digital photos OR videos with voiceover and music soundtracks and pan and zoom visual effects.

Prezi is a cloud-based presentation and storytelling tool for sharing ideas on a virtual canvas. Prezi is distinguished by its zooming and panning effects which enable users to zoom in and out of their presentations. Users can easily upload Powerpoint presentations to Prezi and work collaboratively with partners all in the same Prezi at the same time!

Biteslide is a free storybook creator which gives you 30 free student accounts, and enables the students to work collaboratively in groups in the same project at the same time. Finished books can be printed on any printer, but color printers look best!

GlogsterEDU: the education version is not free, but its worth it! Make online, interactive posters easily and share, print or embed them. Mix images, text, music and video. Students can create their own Glogster accounts for free, but you cannot control or have access to the accounts.

Teaching Tools

The following are some free online tools to help make lessons more engaging and interactive.

Actively Learn: ***JUST ADDED*** Works just like Curriculet shown below, but a little easier to use and has more functions in the free version.  Check it out!

Google Lit Trips are free downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth. At each location along the journey there are placemarks with pop-up windows containing a variety of resources including relevant media, thought provoking discussion starters, and links to supplementary information about “real world” references made in that particular portion of the story.

Curriculet: Embed a layer of questions, quizzes, and rich media annotations into any reading assignment, many already done for you!

Bitesize: short video introductions and explanations of some of the mandated works.

Teaching Books: Search for Books, Authors, Illustrators, Subjects, Booklists, Series, or Awards, get resources to supplement reading activities, and connect with engaging new context and understanding.

Discovery Education: lots of teaching resources for English instruction, including both print and video resources on grammar, composition, reading, literature, etc.  You will need the District's access code to create your own account, which is recommended since you can save whatever resources you find!

 WatchKnowLearn: free educational videos.

BrainPop: videos and interactive quizzes on a variety of English topics, district-wide subscription.

ReadWriteThink: lots of resources in reading and language arts instruction.

Quill: online, interactive grammar and writing lessons.
